Biologics

[bahy-uh-loj-iks]

noun

The “biologics” are an emerging field of medicine that is currently being used to treat a variety of conditions, ranging from musculoskeletal injuries and arthritis to facial rejuvenation and aesthetics. Biologics have even been shown to improve cosmetic conditions such as hair loss and acne scarring.

The principle of biologics is to concentrate the unique and powerful growth factors found in the patient’s own body to promote the regeneration of various tissues. At Beyond Biologics™, the two major sources of biologics used are platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and stem cells, which are either derived from a patient’s fat cells or their bone marrow.

Why choose Beyond Biologics™?

Traditional treatments, primarily surgery, carry significant barriers like recovery time and cost. Here’s how Beyond Biologics™ is different.

Beyond Biologics™

Uses the patient’s own stem cells and platelet-rich plasma to stimulate tissue regeneration, as opposed to traditional surgical methods that replace or remove tissue.

Significantly less costly, far less risky, and requiring meaningfully less recovery time.

Beyond Biologics™ uses established evidence-based techniques that offer healing at just a fraction of the cost of surgery.

Decreased physical, emotional, and financial cost from time off work from surgical recovery.

Traditional Medicine

Costly, with the average knee replacement costing over $50,000 and other joint replacements not far behind

Increased risk of postoperative complications following surgical joint replacements (such as heart attack, stroke, DVT, pulmonary embolism, infection, and bleeding).

Prolonged recovery time, as return to most normal activity after surgical interventions such as joint replacement averages three months.

Persistant postoperative pain is reported by a significant number of patients who undergo total joint replacement surgery.

Therapies

aps

APS Therapy

Autologous Protein Solution (APS) therapy is an innovative osteoarthritis treatment in which specific healing properties in the patient’s own blood are concentrated into a small volume of plasma and injected directly into the arthritic joint to protect cartilage cells and slow the progression of osteoarthritis. BMAC & Adipose Injections

Stem cells regulate tissue-building in the body, and when injected into the site of a musculoskeletal injury, they can help alleviate pain and improve functional mobility. The therapy is a non-invasive treatment option for patients suffering from a variety of joint, ligament, and tendon conditions. Learn more

PRP Therapy

Utilizing a small sample of blood from the patient, Beyond Biologics™ injects a high concentration of platelets and growth factors into the injured area to enhance and speed the recovery process from both acute and chronic tendon and joint diseases as well as cosmetic conditions. Learn more

Cosmetic Uses of PRP Therapy

PRP has a variety of uses in the cosmetic field. Beyond Biologics™ harnesses its regenerative properties by offering facial microneedling with PRP and other PRP therapies for hair loss and acne scarring.

Conditions

Facilitating healing and accelerating recovery for a variety of orthopedic conditions

Clinical research focusing on regenerative therapy for knee injures has shown these non-surgical procedures as an effective means of treatment for a variety of knee injuries. Patients have seen excellent results following regenerative knee treatments, as the protocol triggers the natural healing response of the body and regenerates damaged tissues naturally.

If you are experiencing knee pain that has not responded to traditional treatments like physical therapy, cortisone injections, or even surgery, you may be a good candidate for regenerative therapy. Typical conditions treated at Beyond Biologics™ include:

Osteoarthritis (shoulder, hip, knee, ankle & wrist/hand/thumb)

Tendonitis:

  • Tennis & Golfers elbow
  • Hand & wrist
  • Rotator cuff
  • Achilles tendon

Chondromalacia

Ligament injuries

Cartilage injuries

Bursitis of the shoulder, hip, knee

Though hip replacement surgery has become more prevalent over the past five years, hip replacement surgery is not the only option for patients suffering from hip arthritis. If you have been recommended a hip replacement surgery by your doctor, consult Beyond Biologics™ to determine whether you are a candidate for regenerative therapy such as APS, PRP, or stem cell injections as an alternative to surgery.

Regenerative therapies such as APS, PRP, or stem cell injections have been widely successful at allowing patients to resume their active lifestyles without the need for surgery. With the injections offered at Beyond Biologics™, hip arthritis patients can be in and out of the office in under an hour and can resume their daily activities with little to no downtime. Beyond Biologics™ offers regenerative therapies for the following hip injuries:

Hip arthritis

Labral tears

Hip bursitis

Tendonitis

TREATMENTS OFFERED FOR HIP INJURIES: APS PRP BMAC & Adipose Injections

A decade ago, when an individual was diagnosed with shoulder arthritis or an injured shoulder such as a rotator cuff tear, surgery was the only option to relieve the pain and heal the condition. Thankfully, advances in modern medicine have introduced regenerative therapies as an effective method to treat shoulder injuries and arthritis.

With regenerative therapies such as APS, PRP, or stem cell injections, full recovery is possible without going under the knife. These therapies harness the natural healing powers of the body to regenerate and restore damaged shoulder tissues without surgery. Additionally, there is the added benefit of not needing to go through many months of painful post-surgery rehabilitation. Regenerative injection therapies are effective for a variety of shoulder conditions, including:

Shoulder arthritis

Rotator cuff tendonitis

Partial rotator cuff tears

Impingement syndrome/bursitis

Labral tears or degeneration

If you are suffering from an elbow or hand injury or age-related elbow or hand joint pain, regenerative therapy can help. With the APS, PRP, or stem cell injections, Beyond Biologics™ helps patients recover from common injuries like tennis and golfer’s elbow, osteoarthritis, and more without surgery. PRP, for instance, has been recently shown to be a more effective treatment for thumb arthritis than traditional cortisone injections.

The regenerative injections introduce powerful concentrations of healing cells directly to the site of injury using ultrasound guidance and help increase the body’s natural ability to heal. This way, it is not necessary to go under the knife to experience relief from elbow or hand pain. In fact, patients can generally be in and out of the office in under an hour. The injection therapies offered at Beyond Biologics™ provide treatment for those suffering from the following elbow and hand conditions:

Tennis or golfer’s elbow

Thumb arthritis

Partial tears

Ulnar Collateral Ligament (UCL) injury

Perinatal Tissue and “Stem Cell” Injections: What Patients Should Know

Many patients ask about amniotic fluid, placental tissue, umbilical cord, or “stem cell” injections for joint pain, arthritis, or tendon injuries. These products are often advertised as regenerative medicine treatments.

Why Our Practice Does Not Offer These Injections

Our practice is committed to patient safety and evidence-based care. We do not offer perinatal tissue injections because:

  • They are not FDA approved for orthopedic use
  • They are often incorrectly marketed as stem cell therapy
  • Their benefits are unproven
  • Their use outside a clinical trial is not compliant with current regulations

Our Commitment to Safe, Evidence-Based Care

We are happy to discuss legal, evidence-supported treatment options, including therapies that use a patient’s own blood or cells when appropriate
